Toyon Research Corporation is one of 8 winners of the Army xTech Rapid Capabilities and Critical Technologies Office (RCCTO) Army Strategic Rapid Acquisition (AStRA) competition. Toyon’s entry was for the development of an edge processor aided target recognition (AiTR) solution.
The purpose of the xTech RCCTO AStRA competition is to provide an innovative approach for accelerating and procuring military technology to fill critical operational gaps for the U.S. Army. AStRA drives business participation and promotes entrepreneurship by awarding prize money for eligible organizations to pitch their novel technology solutions and prototypes.
In addition to winning the competition, Toyon received an Other Transaction Authority (OTA) agreement for $1.9 million to develop, demonstrate, and deliver their AiTR solution to the government.
Toyon’s solution will provide Army Small Units with an aided target recognition solution that is capable of processing visible and infrared imagery. The edge processor solution will be capable of identifying targets of potential interest including personnel, vehicles, common weapons, and ground hazards.
“We are thrilled to win the Army xTech competition for our aided target recognition solution,” shared Dr. Andrew Brown, ISR Algorithms Team Lead. “The additional funding provided by the government will allow us to further invest in this innovative technology to support the Army with tactical edge processing using emerging artificial intelligence techniques. Under the funded agreement, our development will culminate with an Operational Capstone Evaluation where we will showcase the capabilities of our solution.”
Toyon’s AiTR solution will be demonstrated at a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 7+ in less than 24 months with the help of funding provided by the contract.
